    • Bibliobibuli YA - Proof of Lies by Diana Rodriquez Wallach Review

Nothing better than waking up to a cup of coffee, Oscar drama, and an awesome review! So many awesome quotes in this review, but I’ll pull this one:

“How she dealt with her obstacles felt real, her depression relatable and, to someone who has battled depression in the past, achingly familiar. However, Anastasia’s need for vengeance wasn’t her entire character. Funny and witty, Anastasia had a dry sense of humor that I loved. It lightened up the more tense parts of the narrative and kept the more serious bits from falling into, as Anastasia would call it, a “funk.””

      Lots of smiles this morning.

When I was walking around this mall buying prom dresses and Z Cavaricci’s, I don’t think I ever imagined I would one day have a book signing here. To any Philly and Delco friends, I hope you can make it!

PROOF OF LIES is coming out in just a few weeks, and if you’d like to try your hand at getting an early copy, there’s a really cool contest going on. Along with about 50 other books, PROOF OF LIES is part of an online scavenger hunt.

Follow the below link to enter, and you’ll be able to select the books in the “hunt” you find most intriguing (hopefully mine!). Then, follow the link provided for the book and locate the hidden word displayed in a graphic (very similar to the picture I’ve posted above). There’s a video right above the entry form that explains things further. Good luck! There’s over $1,000 in prizes!

Valentine’s Day isn’t for everyone. Even if you’re in a relationship, you might despise the forced hearts and flowers of this Hallmark holiday. So for those who would rather read THE SHINING than THE NOTEBOOK, this blog’s for you:

It’s my birthday, and I have a feeling this is going to be a pretty memorable year thanks to a little book I’ll be dropping in a month. Seven years in the making, and finally my main character, Anastasia Phoenix, will be in the hands of readers! Here’s a taste of what she’s like.

Only one month until PROOF OF LIES comes out!! I can’t wait for everyone to meet Anastasia Phoenix, and especially the one person who distracts her from her mission of finding her sister. I hope Marcus Rey is your new YA Book Boyfriend. @entangledteenreads

      Jennifer Lynn Barnes, The Fixer

“Some people just need to be flying tackled.”

If there is any book in the world absolutely perfect for my main character’s TBR pile, it would be THE FIXER. Anastasia Phoenix and Tess would be BFFs if they ever met in real life–from their snarky personalities to their desire to find out the truth at all costs. And this quote fits Anastasia perfectly.

As advanced reader copies head out into the world, I thought I’d drop a little taste of what’s to come in PROOF OF LIES. Here are some scenes, and clues, to go with the first part of the book, which takes place in Boston. Feel free to make some guesses as to how all these photos tie together.

And if you’re interested, some early reviews have popped up on Goodreads! Only TWO MONTHS to go!

      The Blurb

Some secrets are best kept hidden…

Anastasia Phoenix has always been the odd girl out, whether moving from city to international city with her scientist parents or being the black belt who speaks four languages.

And most definitely as the orphan whose sister is missing, presumed dead.

She’s the only one who believes Keira is still alive, and when new evidence surfaces, Anastasia sets out to follow the trail—and lands in the middle of a massive conspiracy. Now she isn’t sure who she can trust. At her side is Marcus, the bad boy with a sexy accent who’s as secretive as she is. He may have followed her to Rome to help, but something about him seems too good to be true.

Nothing is as it appears, and when everything she’s ever known is revealed to be a lie, Anastasia has to believe in one impossibility.

      She will find her sister.

      The Plot

The start of this book is great. It lures the reader in, it grips them by the throat and does not let them go until it’s over. I read it in one sitting, because it was so burning, intense and compelling that I couldn’t stop! I needed to know!

      The Characters

Anastasia is a great main character. Her voice is nice to read, as well as realistic, in terms of character traits and temper. She sounds like a young woman, independent and brave but still in learning. It translated well on paper.

I loved Marcus. He is a great young man, supportive without being pressing and overwhelming. he forms a nice duo with Anastasia.

The characters were quite diverse as well, which I found was a great touch, much needed.

      Do I recommend?

YES! It was easy to read, greatly paced, very well-written! The style is great, the characters are loveable and realistic and the plot was very intriguing, up until the end. Now I need book #2.

If you like mystery, a GREAT first book in a new series, GO FOR IT!

      ★★★★★

My first review for PROOF OF LIES! It feels really good to start off with a good one!

    • My Main Character’s TBR Pile--Vanishing Girls

“I guess that’s the really nice thing about disappearing: the part where people look for you and beg you to come home.” – Lauren Oliver, Vanishing Girls

This book, and this quote, are so perfect for my main character’s TBR pile. If Anastasia Phoenix were real, she would definitely be reading Oliver’s book. As a girl who spends an entire novel searching for her sister, I think Anastasia can relate to Oliver’s premise.

I can’t wait for PROOF OF LIES to debut in March, and this quote is so perfect for Anastasia. If there’s anything that can be said about my main character’s journey through this series, it’s that she runs head first into danger and doesn’t let fear stop her.

I’ve been toying with idea of using a James Bond quote for the epigraph of one of my Anastasia Phoenix novels, because so many of Fleming’s words fit my main character’s situation perfectly. Even if I don’t, I’m certain that Ian Fleming would be in Anastasia’s TBR pile–but for her, the daughter of spies, his books would read more like nonfiction.

It has come to this… in the past week since I have gotten this cold, I have had jury duty, hosted a 2-year-old’s birthday party, worked around the clock on Book 2 revisions, edited at least 4 essays for Johns Hopkins, spoke at a children’s book conference, and went to an Eagles game. My body has now shut down to a degree that I am actually drinking tea (yuck)– but I’m still working on book edits.

As I’m slogging through edits on Book 2 of the Anastasia Phoenix series, I can’t stop thinking of this quote from 13 Reasons Why. This book would soooo be in Anastasia’s TBR pile, and this quote is especially fitting when you get to the end of Book 1, Proof of Lies.

    • Some secrets are best kept hidden… Except this emerging Phillyrican author

It wasn’t until I became an author that I began talking about my ethnic background, mostly because my first YA series dealt heavily with my personal experience growing up as a multicultural kid who didn’t look like either stereotype (Polish and Puerto Rican). My new series, PROOF OF LIES, an Anastasia Phoenix novel, doesn’t examine cultural identity in such a profound way, but it does consciously feature a multicultural cast–because I feel like books should be representative of the world we live in. There are people in my life of all different background, thus I have characters who are just as diverse.

As such, I was recently profiled by Al Dia News in Philadelphia, a newspaper serving the Latino community. Check it out!

WE ARE LIARS should be in everyone’s TBR pile, but it is particularly fitting for my main character’s TBR given that my book is called PROOF OF LIES. Anastasia Phoenix is raised by liars in a family that is definitely “cracked and broken.” She could turn this quote into a tattoo.

When it takes years to write the novel you imagine in your head, you have a lot of time to envision the cover that might go along with it if you’re lucky one day. Today is that day!

It’s my cover reveal for PROOF OF LIES, an Anastasia Phoenix novel!

I’ve been staring at it a lot. Seriously. I might make wallpaper out of it. 🙂

I just found this Tumblr of Hipster Nancy Drew quotes, and now I’m obsessed with it. Not only is it ridiculously clever, but it’s so perfect for the TBR pile for my new main character, Anastasia Phoenix. In Book One of the series, I describe her as “Nancy Drew with a James Bond complex.” And just like this quote, Anastasia is “not really the having friends type.”
